Video: Dom Joly takes Jake Humphrey on a road trip he’ll never forget
Comedian, travel writer and Sunday Times Driving columnist Dom Joly sets out on a road trip in the company of TV presenter, and Sun Motors writer, Jake Humphrey.
“I JUST want to show you I’m a really, down-to-earth, normal dull guy.”
So says comedian, travel writer and Sunday Times Driving columnist Dom Joly as he sets out on a road trip in the company of TV presenter, and Sun Motors writer, Jake Humphrey.
It’s the first in a series of short films hosted by Humphrey who wants to find out what fires Joly’s, and sundry other mates’, enthusiasm for motoring.
“I want them to show me what driving means to them,” he explains. “Where do they love to drive, and why do they do it?”
For this first episode, Joly takes Humphrey on a road trip through the Cotswolds, where he lives, in a Land Rover Defender. Along the way there’s some pretty serious, and judging by Humphrey’s reaction, terrifying, off-roading. Hats off to the Landie, which copes with everything Joly throws at it.

Carpool with Robert Llewellyn
The actor, presenter and comedian Robert Llewellyn may be best known for his role as Kryten in Red Dwarf but he’s also been interviewing celebrity guests from the driving seat of various “green” cars for a number of years. The idea came about when he realised it’d be easier to book famous people onto a chat show if it took place between their other official engagements. Humour, chat and a taxi ride in one. Here he is with the actor Patrick Stewart.
Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, with Jerry Seinfeld
Seinfeld’s idea was similar to that of Llewellyn’s, but the American sitcom legend picked only the funniest people with whom to shoot the breeze. The selection of interesting classic cars appear to be as much stars of the show as their occupants.
