News: Ferrari LaFerrari stars at Hampton Court Concours of Elegance

One of 60 amazing cars spread across 17 themed classes

Ferrari LaFerrari

A Ferrari LaFerrari, the £1m hybrid V12 hypercar that sold out the moment all 499 examples were announced, will be among the star attractions at this year’s Concours of Elegance at Hampton Court Palace.

Sixty cars from around the world will descend on the classic car show. They will be divided among 17 classes named in honour of creative figures responsible for the historic works of art at the Palace. Each class is themed with titles including Blistering Beauties, Red Hot Racers, and Rare and Rapid. The winner of each will be decided by the owners of the 60 cars, each of whom will have one vote.

In addition to a LaFerrari, other notable cars at the show will include a 1936 Duesenberg Model J Rollston Victoria Coupe, described by Duesenberg himself as, perhaps not surprisingly,  “the world’s finest motor car”. Owners of Duesenbergs included the tycoon Howard Hughes, and Hollywood stars such as Gary Cooper and Greta Garbo.

A 1954 Bentley R-type Continental, the very car that James Bond author Ian Fleming glimpsed passing through London, and which he had James Bond drive in Thunderball, will also be present. It will be joined at the show by the Lancia Delta S4 that won the 1986 Monte Carlo rally with Henri Toivonen at the wheel. He lost his life later the same year driving its sister car in the 1986 Tour de Corse.

This is the Concours of Elegance’s third year following the inaugural event at Windsor castle in 2012, and last year’s at St James’s Palace. It runs from September 5-7.
