The lowdown on the largest ever BMW SUV
BMW has added another model to its ever-growing line-up: the X7 SUV. Below is everything you need to know about the new BMW X7.
What is the BMW X7?
The BMW X7 is the largest production SUV that BMW has ever made, and pitched as the premium flagship of the range with seven seats and lots of interior space. The company claims there’s enough room inside for “seven adults to sit comfortably”. Buyers can also swap out the three-seat middle row for two individual chairs.
With all seats in place, the BMW X7 has 326 litres of boot space, which is comparable to a family hatchback. The capacity increases to a massive 2,120 litres when all the seats are folded down.
What engines will the BMW X7 come with?
From launch, the BMW X7 is available with three engines: a 335bhp petrol or a diesel with either 261bhp or 394bhp. All engines come with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and every BMW X7 will be all-wheel drive.
Will there be a hybrid model?
A hybrid X7 hasn’t been confirmed yet, though there will likely be a petrol-electric option eventually. If one is launched, it’ll likely use the 321bhp plug-in hybrid system from the BMW 7 Series.
What tech does the BMW X7 have?
Like many BMWs, the X7 has an expansive options list. Extras range from an Off-Road Package that adds rough terrain driving modes to all models bar the 394bhp diesel, to adaptive cruise control, and heated and cooled front cup holders.
Quite a bit of kit is included as standard, though. Adjustable air suspension is included on all BMW X7s, as are heated seats, four-zone climate control and ten-speaker hi-fi system.
When will the BMW X7 go on sale?
The new BMW X7 is scheduled to go on sale in the UK in April 2019.
How much will the BMW X7 cost?
It won’t come cheap: prices begin at £72,155, with the most expensive model costing from £87,240, depending on specification.
What are the BMW X7’s rivals?
At this price, there’s only one seven-seater SUV that competes with the BMW X7: the Mercedes-Benz GLS. The Land Rover Discovery also offers seven seats and 4×4 ability, and costs from ‘just’ £47,400, but you can get the top-spec versions from over £60,000. If you don’t necessarily need a three-row luxury SUV, the five-seater Range Rover is a premium alternative.
