FOR A fragrance that costs twice what you’d expect to pay for a high street eau de toilette, and is available to buy only at the world famous Harrods store in Knightsbridge, London (you’ll not even find it on the Harrods website), you’d expect more care to be taken over the positioning of the label. On our test bottle, the silver logo wasn’t straight (see below), which raised our hackles immediately.

Still, the bottle itself is solid, weighty and pleasing to hold, with its curved edges that mirror the design language of Jaguar cars (the team from Sunday Times Style made this connection immediately), the cap attaches with a satisfying click and the presentation box is nicely put together.

On to a much more important matter, though: the fragrance. Jaguar tells us the top notes are of bergamot, petitgrain and nutmeg, the heart notes are vetiver, labdanum and palo santo (a “sacred wood” from South America with a “woody, slightly sweet note that is somewhat reminiscent of coconut”), and base notes of olibanum, tonka bean, grey musk.

The overall effect is strong, mature and distinguished, which arguably suits the profile of a Jaguar driver, so mission accomplished. However, it is quite potent and won’t suit all tastes, particularly younger men who may prefer to wear something a little less bitter.
